Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett has demanded answers on behalf of local families, builders, and developers regarding compulsory State Government charges on private land.
Mr Bennett tabled a Question on Notice to the Minister for State Development this morning.
Can the Minister confirm what actions are being considered to reduce State Government costs on privately developed land being brought to market?
Mr Bennett said these imposed costs are stopping families and developers in their tracks.
“We know that the associated charges with developing or buying property is turning people away,” he said.
“We’re in the middle of a housing crisis but homes are not being built due to State Government fees.
“Developers are walking away, and families are suffering.
“This has to stop.
“Doing the same failed thing repeatedly for the last seven years has resulted in the government creating a crisis of their own making. “There are immediate steps the State Government could take like releasing land for freehold, working with the private sector, and reducing fees and charges.
“I would welcome working with the Minister to develop a plan to put more roofs over the heads of Queenslanders.”
