Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett said serious changes need to be made at the Bundaberg hospital following a slew of recommendations around workplace culture, governance, management, and administration.
Mr Bennett said the Clinical Review and Health Service Investigation into the Bundaberg Hospital is damning.
“The cover-up culture and secrecy is a sickness that runs deep in the Wide Bay Hospital and Health Service,” said Mr Bennett.
“WBHHS executives can’t seriously pretend that nothing is wrong when 39 recommendations have been made as a result of this investigation,” said Mr Bennett.
“Many of these recommendations are around workplace culture, governance, management, and administration.
“For months I have been calling on the Minister for Health to fix the toxic culture within the WBHHS.
“These recommendations are black and white; proof that workplace culture and built environments are impacting our hard-working staff.
“Our frontline staff are being pushed to the limit.
“They need more support, more resources, and more beds.
“They need respect.
“Unfortunately, we’re not seeing any of these basic needs under the Palaszczuk Labor Government.”
The Member for Burnett said the investigation has led to more questions.
“Sadly, we’re still looking for transparency and answers,” said Mr Bennett.
“Queensland Health has released a sanitised summary of the investigation instead of the full report.
“So I can’t help but ask, what are they hiding?
“Queenslanders deserve the truth.”
