Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett delivered some good news to members of the Apple Tree Creek Memorial Hall Committee this week.

Apple Tree Creek’s beloved historic hall has been awarded a $35,000 state government grant to restore the building.

Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett said the memorial hall, which was built in 1949 to honour locals who served in war, was an important part of the fabric of the community.

“The Apple Tree Creek Memorial Hall holds a special place in the hearts of Isis District residents,” Mr Bennett said.

“It’s a precious piece of history to the community which should be preserved, and that’s why I’m delighted to announce these much-needed funds for the committee to repair the hall.

“The funds will allow essential maintenance to be carried out on the building to ensure that the community continues to enjoy social gatherings at this historic hall.”

Mr Bennett said the Apple Tree Creek Memorial Hall was one of 18 not-for-profit community groups in the Bundaberg and Burnett region to be awarded funds through the latest round of the Gambling Community Benefit Fund.

Apple Tree Creek Memorial Hall committee president Chris Cook welcomed the funds, which she said would breathe new life into the hall.

“This funding is much-needed for essential structural repair and maintenance works to ensure our hall is here for future use,” she said.

“We are grateful for the funding. We have worked hard for 40 years to keep that hall running for the community and this funding will help our commitment.”

More than $349,000 has been allocated to community groups in the Bundaberg and Burnett region from round 93 of the Gambling Community Benefit Fund.
