Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett is encouraging the community to donate blankets, jumpers and other items to help keep locals in need warm this winter.

Mr Bennett said a local blanket and jumper drive had been launched to help people doing it tough over the winter months.

“As winter looms, I ask people to spare a thought for those in our community who are less fortunate,” Mr Bennett said.

“If you have any spare blankets or unwanted jumpers lying around your home, please donate them as it will make a huge difference to others.”

Mr Bennett praised Bundaberg café Take the Plunge for the initiative.

“I cannot commend the team at Take the Plunge café enough for the work they do in our community, and the Blanket Drive is another example of how Beth, Justine and their wonderful staff make our community a better place,” he said.

Mr Bennett said clean blankets, jumpers and other warm clothes can be dropped off to Take the Plunge Coffee Shop, located inside YMCA, 7 Quinn Street. Alternatively, donations can be dropped off to the Burnett Electorate Office in Bargara.

Donated goods will be distributed by Angels Community Group, a not-for-profit charitable organisation.
