Bundaberg community organizations can apply for small one-off grants of up to $3,000 to host awareness-raising activities during Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month in May next year.
This $70,000 funding round for community activities will raise awareness to help prevent domestic and family violence.
Domestic and family violence can include physical as well as non-physical abuse and is a serious and complex social issue that affects thousands of Queenslanders each year.
Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month is an annual event in the Bundaberg Region that aims to raise awareness of the issue and strengthens local support for domestic and family violence through prevention initiatives.
I encourage groups and organisations to come together to help rid our communities of this shocking crime.
It’s important for communities to take a stand against domestic and family violence and let people know there is help available and send a clear message to perpetrators that it won’t be tolerated.
The grant round is open until 4 November 2013.
Activities held during Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month this year included candle-lighting ceremonies, sporting events, community fun days, marches and an art exhibition.
