Queensland community and volunteer groups who help others can now apply for a share of $1.35 million to buy essential items to help their local communities.

Member for Burnett, Stephen Bennett said the community and volunteer groups in Burnett should take advantage of the Newman Government’s Caring for our Community election commitment, which will provide a total of $4 million in small grants over three years.

“The Newman Government is providing $1.35 million this year for small grants as part of this fantastic program, to help give our local community groups a boost,” he said.

“On offer are small grants of up to $5,000 and up to $15,000 depending on the needs of individual community groups in Burnett.

“Up to $5,000 is available towards small equipment items and materials, such as computers, upgraded software or white goods.

“Organisations can also apply for bigger grants of up to $15,000, which may be considered for more substantial projects, such as making food preparation areas compliant with regulations.

“We understand the invaluable contribution community groups and their volunteers make to Burnett, and I’m committed to supporting their activities.

“I would encourage all community and volunteer groups in Burnett to apply for funding under this new initiative.”

Applications can now be made at www.communities.qld.gov.au until 3.00pm on Monday 4 December 2012.

Mr Bennett said applying for funding under the new Caring for our Community program would be simple, effective and online.

“The application process is quick and paperless to make it as easy as possible for community groups,” he said.

“We know that the cost of equipment can quickly mount up for these organisations, so we’re doing what we can to help them keep up their great work.”
