The benefits that cultural diversity have brought to Bundaberg and the Burnett will continue to be celebrated with the announcement today of Queensland Government funding for events in 2Steve with Peter Peterson and Phil ladies group 1014 which promote cultural harmony and understanding.

$12,000 has been provided under the Newman Government’s Valuing Diversity Program for three events in Bundaberg and the Burnett that recognise and celebrate Queensland’s cultural diversity.

Events to receive Valuing Diversity Program funding are:

  • Rotary Club of Bundaberg Sunrise, $10,000 each for the 2014 and 2015 Bundaberg Multicultural Festivals as a “Signature Event”;
  • Bundaberg and District South Sea Islander Action Group, $1,000 for the “Identity Builds Stability” project; and
  • Bundaberg District Australian-Filipino Association Inc, $1,000 for the “Pearl of the Orient” fiesta.

The grants will help new and established events that give Queenslanders the opportunity to strengthen their understanding of cultural diversity and its benefits in the wider community.

Bundaberg and the Burnett are home to people with diverse histories, cultures and traditions – these grants support events that bring us together to celebrate this as well as what we all have in common.

I’m particularly proud of the Multicultural Festival’s success, which recognises the event’s strong track record and support from the region’s diverse cultural groups.

We are all Queenslanders and should be committed to promoting strong culturally diverse communities.

Queensland is home to people from all backgrounds – a place where everyone has the chance to participate in our great state and the great opportunities it offers.
