The Burnett community will receive a boost through a Queensland Government grant of $120,000 to build a much-needed car park at the Fairymead boat ramp.
Total cost of the project is $300,000, with Bundaberg Regional Council contributing $180,000.
The funding will help build 45 car and trailer parking spaces, adding to the $550,000 already provided towards building the ramp on the north side of the Burnett River through the Marine Infrastructure Fund.
This was one of my commitments prior to the election, and I’m delighted to see this project proceed in my first term as the member for Burnett.
With Bundaberg Council well underway in the planning and design stage, we are looking forward in 2015 to the first launches of recreational boats, and reconnecting with the river.
The car park at Fairymead boat ramp is among a raft of projects across Queensland providing much-needed community infrastructure including CCTV cameras, local park and showground upgrades and main street improvements.
The 2014-15 Local Government Grants and Subsidies Program would help councils support and grow their communities.
These grants show we are investing in our towns and cities to ensure a brighter future through vital projects that support the region’s economic development and community pride.
“We are also giving the projects an early boost with a bigger slice of the grant upfront to help councils start and finish work as quickly as possible.
