Twenty one thousand home owners in manufactured home parks across Queensland will be able to have their say on the future of the Manufactured Homes (Residential Parks) Act 2003.
Housing Minister Tim Mander, launched a public survey this week at the Palm Lakes Resort manufactured home park in Toowoomba. The survey is part of a review of the Manufactured Homes Act to ensure it strikes a fair balance between residents and park operators.
The Manufactured Homes Act in its current form is inefficient and misleading, pointing to changes made by the previous government.
Common complaints I receive about the Manufactured Homes Act relate to service charges, rent increases and contract conditions.
Many of these issues seem to have occurred when the previous Labor government made rushed amendment to Act in 2003, with limited public consultation, namely section 99a of the Act.
Issues we’ve faced in the Burnett have highlighted the inadequacies of the current act. People living in manufactured home parks in my electorate have been crying out for change, and we’ve responded to their call.
There are around 165 manufactured home parks around Queensland. All residents will be able to have their say, and help the government develop solutions to the problems with the Act.
Respondents will have 12 weeks to provide their feedback, with the survey closing on 20 December 2013.
Consultation will also be held with park owners and industry representatives, as well as home owner advocacy groups and other stakeholders.
The survey is available online at www.getinvolved.qld.gov.au or visit www.hpw.qld.gov.au/housing for more information.
