The Newman Government has delivered another election commitment today announcing victims of crime will receive more than $2 million in additional funding over the next four years.
Member for Burnett, Stephen Bennett said the funding would provide much-needed financial support to struggling community-based organisations.
“We want to see this funding used to increase frontline services that target the recovery and support of victims of crime,” Mr Bennett said.
“It will go toward expanding existing victims of crime services and also provide new service responses or outlets.
“Service providers are telling us that there is an increased need for a range of services for victims of crime across Queensland.
“This additional $2 million will increase the capacity of organisations in the Burnett electorate to respond to growing, emerging or developing needs of victims of violent crime in the region.
“Funding is a constant issue for not-for-profit organisations so it is great that the Government can support them with an injection of money.
“These organisations work tirelessly to help victims overcome devastating circumstances to get their lives back and contribute once again in their local community.
“The Newman Government supports the valuable work being done by these organisations and recognises the significant and vital contributions they make to the State.
“I encourage all community organisations dedicated to helping victims of crime to apply for funding so they can continue to provide these valuable services.”
A total of $500,000 will be available each year until June 2016 and individual submissions can be for a maximum of $200,000 per annum for up to four years.
All submissions must be received by 4pm, Friday 19 October 2012.
