Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett is encouraging locals to embrace their inner green thumbs and dig in for National Tree Day.
Mr Bennett said National Tree Day, on Sunday July 30, was an opportunity to do something positive for the environment and community, and reconnect with nature.
“National Tree Day is a wonderful opportunity to educate and recruit fellow Australians to actively care for our unique land and create future generations of dedicated environmental guardians,” Mr Bennett said.
“It’s a rewarding opportunity to connect with our community, do something good for our local environment and benefit your health by spending some time in nature.”
National Tree Day and Schools Tree Day combine to make Australia’s largest community tree planting and nature care event.
Mr Bennett said participating in National Tree Day was easy.
“I encourage people to get out in the sunshine and plant a tree in your garden, host a green morning or afternoon tea, or give a plant to your colleague, family and friend to look after in support of National Tree Day,” he said.
Mr Bennett joined students at Gooburrum State School this week to plant native trees in support of Schools Tree Day.
