Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett is urging locals across the Bundaberg and Burnett region to make sure they are storm ready this summer.

Mr Bennett said while we can’t control the weather, people can control how they prepare for it and how to respond.

“Everyone can do a little to accomplish a lot in preparation for the imminent storm season,” he said.

“This is an opportunity for everyone to take small steps to protect their property, and to assist neighbours with preparations to ensure every household can weather the storms this summer.”

Mr Bennett said there were many things residents could do to prepare, such as compiling a home emergency kit filled with essentials like batteries, drinking water and canned food, and having a family emergency plan every member knows about.

“I also urge anyone with health conditions to ensure they are able to access their medication in the event of severe weather.”
Some simple tasks for residents include:
• Make up an emergency kit
• Purchase a first aid kit
• Keep a list of emergency numbers
• Clean and prepare the backyard
