State Member for Burnett, Stephen Bennett, has urged the local community to get on board during Child Protection Week to help promote the message that ‘protecting children is everybody’s business’.
“Child Protection Week runs from September 2 to 8, and is a chance for the community to openly confront the issue of child abuse and neglect,” Mr Bennett said.
“It’s also an opportunity for us all to consider how we can work together to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all Queensland children.
“Events and activities will be taking place across the State to promote the message of child safety and I encourage residents to get involved and support this very important week.
“Children are our future, and the Newman Government will continue to work hard to keep children and young people safe and ensure they have a bright future.”
The Queensland Government has provided funding for community-based events across the State.
The week is coordinated nationally by the National Association for Child Abuse and Neglect, and in Queensland by the Child Protection Week committee, comprising representatives from government and non-government agencies concerned with child protection issues.
