Round two of the $4 million Queensland Remembers Grants Program has opened, and the Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett has urged local organisations who support Queensland Veterans to apply.
Mr Bennett said this funding will go a long way to assist ex-service men and women in our community.
“For years, the veteran community and I have been pushing for more funding and support to help our ex-service personnel and their families,” he said.
“To see this funding reopened brings an enormous sense of relief.
“A huge thanks must go to everyone in the community who fought for this support, thank you for not giving up.”
Mr Bennett said the delivery of the funding on Vietnam Veterans’ Day is a respectful acknowledgement of the sacrifice made.
“Today we give thanks and pay our respects to the service men and women, and to the survivors who came home.
“60,000 Australians served in the Vietnam War, tragically 521 lost their life.
“This war was the cause of the greatest social and political dissent in Australia since the conscription referendums of the First World War.
“The Queensland Remembers Grants will help to give thanks and honour our veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice.”
The program supports grants for the delivery of minor capital works such as repairs, maintenance or the purchase of equipment up to $50,000 per grant, as well as major capital works – including internal building refurbishments and accessibility upgrades – between $50,000 and $250,000 per grant.
Community grants up to $50,000 per grant are also provided, to assist eligible organisations with commemorative activities, events or projects such as the creation of new memorials, memorial gardens and avenues of honour.
The second round of the Queensland Remembers Grants Program is now open for submissions and will close at 5pm on 4 October 2022.
Successful recipients under round two of the Queensland Remembers Grants Program are expected to be announced in March 2023.
