Seven local community organisations across the Burnett will share in more than $153,000 from the latest round of grants from the Gambling Community Benefit Fund.

Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett said successful recipients from Round 87 of the Fund include the 1770 Sailing Club, the Agnes Water Orchid & Foliage Club, the Bundaberg Dragon Boat Club, the Isis District Historical Society, Oakwood State School P&C, the Bundaberg Branch Sporting Shooters Association of Australia and Volunteer Marine Rescue Bundaberg.

Mr Bennett said the Isis District Historical Society would receive just under $16,500 towards upgrading storage facilities and computer equipment.

“This much-needed funding will come in handy as the historical society work towards cataloguing their extensive collection of donated items and photos at the historical complex and the Old Pharmacy,” Mr Bennett said.

“They will also use the funds to purchase some exhibition equipment, including mannequins to display their clothing items.

“I want to take the opportunity to congratulate the dedicated volunteers of the Isis District Historical Society, who do a remarkable job in preserving the Isis District’s history.

“Our local groups, like the Isis District Historical Society, make enormous contributions to our community and it’s wonderful to be able to support them through this grants program.”

Mr Bennett said the quarterly grants recognised the constant struggle by not-for-profit organisations for funding.

“These grants allow profits from gambling to be invested back into grassroots services and facilities that benefited people from all walks of life in the local community,” he said.

“I encourage all local groups, however big or small, to apply for the next round of funding and make the most of this wonderful opportunity.”
