Almost 40 Burnett Heads State School students graced the halls of Queensland’s Parliament House in their recent trip to the ‘big smoke’.

Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett said it was an honour to host the students as part of their school camp.

“I don’t think it will be too long before some of these young faces are back in the House advocating for our community!” said Mr Bennett.

“These year 5 and 6’s are our next generation of leaders and I have no doubt our future will be in good hands.

“I was extremely proud to show them around the chamber and the many rooms and corridors that make up Queensland Parliament.

“I look forward to hosting more Burnett students and encourage our local schools to get in touch with my office to arrange a visit in the New Year!”

Burnett Heads State School teacher Trevor Standfast said the trip to Parliament House was one of the camp highlights.

“The students loved walking through the House and experiencing the wonder and beauty of the building,” he said.

“We have a strong focus on respect and kindness at Burnett Heads State School and I couldn’t be more proud of how our students conducted themselves, receiving many positive comments from passing staff and MP’s.

“Several students have participated in the Amazing Shake program that’s all about developing professional skills for the next generation of leaders.

“It goes without saying they were somewhat shocked by the manners and disrespect some politicians showed during debate in the chamber!

“For many students this was their first trip to Brisbane, the camp is all about giving them different and engaging experiences.” ENDS.
