I’m calling on residential tenants and rental property owners to check if they are one of the almost 43,000 people who have forgotten to claim their bond
refund.
The Residential Tenancies Authority (RTA) is holding $9.35 million in forgotten bonds which have accumulated over the past 25 years.
I want to encourage people who may have forgotten their bond refund to contact the RTA and claim back their rightful bond money.
Under current laws any bond which has not been claimed for more than seven years may be reinvested into affordable housing for some of Queensland’s most vulnerable people.
Tenants and landlords will however still retain their right to claim any forgotten bond, even after the seven year period has lapsed.
This is a win-win scenario for everyone and allows the Government to continue delivering on our election promise to revitalise frontline services.
Anyone who believes they may have forgotten bond can contact the RTA on 1300 366 311 or visit www.rta.qld.gov.au
