Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett said a good night’s sleep has realised a rational decision in the wake of the Foodbank funding debacle.

“Commonsense has prevailed and Foodbank will not see its funding cut by the Federal Government,” he said.

“I was totally shocked by yesterday’s announcement that would have seen Foodbank’s funding cut by almost half.

“But this morning I thank Scott Morrison for reversing the decision following huge backlash from the public.

“The charity feeds 710,000 people a month with farmers and supporters from our electorate providing nearly 20% of the food distributed.

“I’m extremely relieved to see this funding return as we approach one of the most challenging times of year for vulnerable Queenslanders and our drought-affected communities.”

CEO of Foodbank Michael Rose said they’ve welcomed the decision from the Prime Minister to reinstate the funding and to increase funding nationally for food relief.

It follows concerns yesterday that one of the organization’s programs was a risk due to the cuts.

“This funding commitment allows Foodbank to continue the key staples program which augments the fabulous fresh produce we get from around the Bundaberg region,” Mr Rose said.

“We encourage everyone to also contribute to Foodbanks Christmas Appeal.”
