Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett has encouraged local fishing groups and businesses to throw a line in to catch a share of $500,000!
The next rounds of two State Government fishing grants have opened and Mr Bennett said there’s only four weeks to snag the funding.
“$250,000 is available for community-based not-for-profit organisations, fishing clubs and incorporated associations under the Queensland’s Community Fishing Grants Program,” he said.
“This funding can be used for activities like kids’ fishing clinics, social inclusion fishing programs, recreational fish tagging and habitat restoration.
“We live in an angler’s paradise here in the Burnett and I can think of countless clubs and organisations from Woodgate, Burnett Heads, Baffle Creek and up to Turkey Beach who should apply.”
Another $250,000 has been allocated to the Commercial and Charter Fishing Grant Program to fund activities that modernise fisheries management in Queensland by promoting industry innovation and best practice.
Last year saw more than 100 applicants apply for the two programs but Mr Bennet said competition is tight.
“Around 30 projects were funded in the previous rounds so I’d encourage our local groups to get in quick and create that point of difference,” he said.
“I’d love to see as many local projects as possible get a share of this funding to highlight the fantastic work being done locally in the fishing sector.”
Expressions of interest for the grants will be accepted online at daf.smartygrants.com.au until December 7, 2022.
