When was the last time your vehicle had a full safety inspection?

In the lead up to Fatality Free Friday, Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett is reminding motorists to make sure their vehicles are safe.

To help spread the road safety message, Mr Bennett is giving residents the chance to win a full safety vehicle inspection and wheel alignment which will be carried out by qualified local mechanics.

Mr Bennett said Fatality Free Friday, on May 27, is the nation’s largest community road safety campaign to raise awareness of the human cost of careless driving.

“Fatality Free Friday calls for drivers to be extra vigilant on our roads and works on the belief that road users themselves are the key to zero fatalities,” he said.

“It’s a reminder that our actions, decisions and behaviour can be the difference between life and death.

“I call on every road user in the Bundaberg and Burnett region to make a promise to themselves, their family and friends that they will consciously drive safely and obey road rules to make it to their destinations safely.”

Bargara Service Centre owner Ian Carr welcomed Mr Bennett’s initiative to remind road users to get their vehicles checked.

Mr Carr has jumped on board the road safety campaign and is one of the local mechanics who will be conducting full safety vehicle inspections and wheel alignments for winners of Mr Bennett’s Fatality Free Friday competition.

“If you are preparing to go away on a holiday, it’s paramount that you get your vehicle checked over to make sure it’s roadworthy before you venture down the highway,” Mr Carr said.

Childers residents will also have the chance to win a vehicle safety check and wheel alignment through HD Mechanical Services, courtesy of Mr Bennett.

David Fritz, owner of HD Mechanical Services,  said everyone had a responsibility to ensure their vehicle was safe for themselves and other road users around them.
