Local primary producers will now have until July 20 to apply for funding through Category C Recovery Grants to clean up storm damaged properties caused by severe weather in October last year.

Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett sought an extension to the Natural Disaster Recovery Grants program on behalf of local primary producers who expressed concerns that they would miss the deadline.

Mr Bennett said prolonged wet weather had delayed the restoration process.

“Recovery efforts have been frequently interrupted by further rainfall events,” he said.

“The prolonged wet weather has made it challenging for contractors to carry out the necessary earthworks required, particularly given that the region has received monthly rainfall totals well above the historical medians.”

The deadline extension gives eligible primary producers an additional three months to access grants of up to $25,000.
