A $15,000 election commitment from LNP sitting MP Stephen Bennett will see Elliott Heads Bowls Club install brand new rainwater tanks to help the club maintain their greens.
The funding commitment was announced at the Elliott Heads Bowls Club this week with the club’s board Chairperson Maxine Stauffer.
Mr Bennett said it was important to support local sport and recreation clubs and boost their facilities.
“Our local sport and recreation clubs bring our community together and promote fitness and thanks to the LNP’s strong plan, we’re boosting facilities and services so that more people can get active,” Mr Bennett said.
“The Elliott Heads Bowls Club is a great club and if I’m re-elected I will deliver on this election promise to help them look after their greens in a more sustainable and environmentally-friendly way.
“I’d like to see this wonderful club continue to grow, and this funding is a great step forward to help them prosper.”
Elliott Heads Bowls Club’s board Chairperson Maxine Stauffer said the new rain water tanks would be a welcome addition to the club’s facilities.
“This is wonderful news for the club and will save us money so we can survive,” she said.
“We have three of the best grass greens in the district and the greens, and whilst they are the best, they cost a lot of money. They are really expensive to keep in a club.
“We are trying everything possible to keep our greens, and to keep them they must have water. Our last excess water account was over $3,000.
“Our only alternative is to rip them all up and spend money to put synthetic greens down, but there’s no way we could afford $200,000 per green just for a ten year lifespan… there’s no way in the world we could afford that.”
She said the rain water tanks would assist the club to become more self-sufficient and environmentally-friendly.
