A petition to reinstate funding for a hydrotherapy pool in Childers has now been launched online.
Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett said the e-petition, which he is sponsoring, was created after the new Labor Government scrapped the fully costed and approved commitment to fund the undercover heated hydrotherapy pool in Childers.
He said the promised the $300,000 hydrotherapy pool was part of the LNP’s ongoing desire to revitalise frontline health services in regional Queensland.
“The people of Childers and surrounding communities expect and deserve to access high quality health care facilities, but sadly the Health Minister and his Labor Government has decided to play politics with this community, Mr Bennett said.
“The Health Minister has a number of heated public pools and a hydrotherapy pool in his electorate. All this community is asking for is their fair share of resources.
“This Labor Government has turned its back on this community… Regional communities including Childers must not be ignored.
Mr Bennett congratulated the community for rallying together last week to protest along the main street of Childers.
“There were more than one hundred passionate people who marched the streets to voice their concerns and fight to make sure this much-needed project is delivered,” he said.
“People power was certainly on display last week and I hope the Health Minister takes notice of this community.”
Mr Bennett urged the Childers community to sign the e-petition, which can be accessed at www.parliament.qld.gov.au/work-of-assembly/petitions/e-petitions
