Christmas has come early for the Discovery Christian College.

The independent school has just been awarded $500,000 through the Department of Education’s Capital Assistance Scheme, Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett announced this week.

Mr Bennett said the scheme provides Queensland Government funds to assist eligible non-state schools to provide, convert, refurbish and upgrade educational facilities or boarding accommodation.

He said the funds would be used to assist in expanding the school’s outdoor facilities.

“It gives me great pleasure to make this exciting announcement for the Discovery Christian College,” Mr Bennett said.

“Funds will be used to construct a covered sports area, covered outdoor learning and lunch area.

“These new works will be a great addition to the school’s facilities already in place, and I’m sure the schooling community is looking forward to seeing this project come to life.”

Mr Bennett said he was pleased to see funds continue to flow to regional areas, and he was particularly thrilled to see Agnes Water had been rewarded.

“I remain committed to ensuring our region continues to receive its fair share of funding.”
