National Tree Day2016

Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett is inviting locals and school communities to embrace their inner green thumbs by digging in for National Tree Day.

Mr Bennett said Planet Ark’s National Tree Day, on Sunday, July 31, was an opportunity to do something positive for the local environment and community, and to reconnect with nature.

“The intention of National Tree Day is to inspire, educate and recruit fellow Australians to actively care for our unique land and encourage future generations of dedicated environmental guardians,” Mr Bennett said.

“It’s a rewarding opportunity to connect with our community, do something good for our local environment and benefit your health by spending some time in nature.

“Research undertaken by Planet Ark shows that there are numerous health, wellbeing and development benefits from spending time out in nature, and there’s no better way  to embrace these benefits than by taking part in the National Tree Day campaign.”

National Tree Day and Schools Tree Day combine to make Australia’s largest community tree planting and nature care event.

Mr Bennett said participating in National Tree Day was easy.

“It’s a wonderful opportunity to get out in the sunshine and plant a tree in your garden, host a green morning or afternoon tea, or give a plant to your colleague, family and friend to look after,” he said.

Mr Bennett will join students at Rosedale State School on Friday, July 29, to plant a native tree in support of Schools Tree Day.
