Christmas has come early for six Burnett sport and recreation clubs, with round two of Get Playing and Get Going wrapping up for the year.
The funding is part of more than $14.5 million dollars approved for successful clubs under this round.
Get Playing and Get Going are two of three programs that make up the Get in the Game initiative, a key election promise designed to get more children and young people involved in recreation activities.
In this round, one Burnett club will receive $54,511 in Get Playing funding to improve their infrastructure and facilities.
In addition, five clubs will share $31,348 in Get Going funding to provide better services and boost member numbers.
The Get in the Game focus is on promoting greater participation at the grassroots community level and supporting local clubs and this funding announcement will achieve that in Burnett.
Burnett clubs to receive funding:
- Isis District Small Bore Rifle Club Incorporated ($54,511 Get Playing) to construct an indoor air rifle range at Childers.
- Agnes Water Rugby League Club Incorporated ($644 Get Going) to conduct coach accreditation and purchase equipment.
- Agnes Water/1770 & District Branch Little Athletics Centre Incorporated ($9153 Get Going) to purchase equipment.
- Bundy Dragons Bundaberg Dragon Boat Club Incorporated ($8870 Get Going) topurchase equipment.
- Bingera Football Club Incorporated ($3355 Get Going) to conduct coach accreditation and develop school and club links and purchase equipment.
- Agnes Water Surf Life Saving Club Incorporated ($9326 Get Going) to conduct junior activities program and purchase equipment.
The response from round one Get Playing and Get Going is overwhelming and round two was even more popular.
“During round two, more than 280 Queensland clubs applied for Get Playing funding and more than 1,000 clubs applied for Get Going.
The results show that this was an area the previous Labor Government was clearly ignoring.
But we are making it right with more than $24.5 million in total funding approved for Get Playing and Get Going following rounds one and two.
It’s pleasing to see the positive outcomes resulting from round one funding and I look forward to seeing more improvements to our sport and recreation clubs state-wide.
Round three of Get Started, the third program in the Get in the Game initiative, is due to open in early 2014 and assists children and young people with the costs to join a sport or recreation club.
