Children in the Burnett electorate have another reason for festive cheer with four sport and recreation clubs approved for Get Going funding grants.
Get Going provides clubs with better resources, equipment and services for attracting and retaining members, as part of the Queensland Government’s Get in the Game initiative.
“Sport and recreation clubs are an integral part of the local community and it’s important that they have access to the proper resources, equipment and training opportunities,” Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett said.
“Get in the Game is focused on promoting greater participation at the grassroots community level and supporting local clubs and this funding will help achieve that in Burnett.
“In this round, four clubs will receive Get Going funding for projects that support members or create opportunities for more people to become members.”
The clubs and projects receiving funding are:
• 1770 Sailing to purchase dragon boat and canoe outrigger paddles.
• Agnes Water-1770 and District Branch Little Athletics Centre to provide introduction to coaching and Level 1 coach accreditation and purchase equipment.
• Bundaberg Surf Life Saving Club to purchase equipment.
• Elliott Heads Surf Life Saving Club to purchase equipment.
Recreation and Sport Minister Steve Dickson said the Queensland Government was keen to encourage more families to get involved in sport and recreation.
“We made an election commitment to get more young Queenslanders involved in recreation and sport and we are delivering through these highly successful Get in the Game programs,” Mr Dickson said.
“We have seen some great results since this initiative kicked off in 2012, with more than 67,000 vouchers issued to assist kids who can least afford to participate in sport or recreation.
“We’ve also helped 1330 clubs with activities to increase participation and approved 360 infrastructure and facilities projects.
“There is more to do though and we will continue with our strong plan for the future.”
