The Moore Park Beach Bowls and Sports Club has received a much-needed funding boost from the latest round of the Gambling Community Benefit Fund.

Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett said the club was one of nine community groups in the Burnett region to be awarded funds through the state government grant, which provides one-off funding to not-for-profit community organisations with revenues sourced from gaming taxes.

Round 89 of the Gambling Community Benefit Fund has seen more than $155,000 divvied up to Burnett community groups, Mr Bennett said today.

Mr Bennett visited the Moore Park Beach Bowls and Sports Club today to personally congratulate them on their successful application.

“The Moore Park Beach Bowls and Sports Club is a very active club, with around 600 members on their books. These funds will go a long way to help the club upgrade their amenities to meet growing needs,” he said.

“It’s great news for the Moore Park Beach Bowls and Sports Club and for the other successful applicants throughout the Burnett region.

“These organisations are the backbone to our communities and it’s wonderful to see these groups receive the recognition they deserve to help them continue to prosper with the help of state government funding.”

Moore Park Beach Bowls and Sports Club’s Grant Errington welcomed the funding announcement, which he said would allow the club to upgrade their bathroom amenities with disability access.

“We felt it was time to cater to older patrons… it will help them to feel more comfortable while they’re here, knowing that those facilities are here for them,” Mr Errington said.

Mr Bennett urged other to apply for Round 91 of the Gambling Community Benefit Fund, which is expected to open in mid-November and close mid-January 2017.
