Childers residents are up in arms over the significant under-staffing at the Childers Courthouse, said the member for Burnett Stephen Bennett.
A petition has been launched in an effort to see changes at the Childers Court House with some residents waiting up to two hours before they are seen to.
“The issue stems from the courthouse being utilised as a QGAP centre, providing access to Queensland Government services for everyone in the southern part of the Burnett electorate,” Mr Bennett said.
“My heart goes out to the staff who are currently there, as they are having to operate under significant pressure with very heavy workloads.
“They simply cannot keep up.”
Mr Bennett said he has written to the Transport and Main Roads Minister, asking for an urgent review of the staffing levels.
“Unfortunately, Minister Bailey’s response is typical of the Labor Government, in that it was dismissive and disappointing,” he said.
“He’s given no indication of a review which means the current staff are expected to continue to work until they drop and waiting times will only increase.”
Childers resident John Huntley has launched a petition asking the State Government to take some action.
“The pressure is getting to the staff, it’s completely unfair on both the workers and the customers,” Mr Huntley said.
“You can’t expect one staff member to do the work of three.
“Occupational health and safety dictates that staff should not be put under that sort of pressure.”
