Child Protection Week has kicked off in Bundaberg and the Burnett with the community getting together to remind people that child safety is everybody’s business.

Member for Burnett, Stephen Bennett said the week, which runs from 1–7 September 2013, aims to raise the profile of child protection issues as well as teaching children and young people how they can best protect themselves.

“I encourage everyone to get behind Child Protection Week and take part in local community events to help remind us that we all play a part in making our state the safest place to raise a child,” Mr Bennett said.

“I also acknowledge the hard work done by individuals and community groups to promote the safety, wellbeing and provide child protection services to some of our most vulnerable children and young people.”

Residents in Bundaberg and the Burnett can get involved in Child Protection Week by attending the many local events, including the Family Fun Day on Saturday September from 11am to 3pm at Alexandra Park on Quay Street.

The Newman Government contributed more than $105,000 to Child Protection Week community-based events to help spread the word that protecting children and young people is everybody’s business.
