The Captain Creek community has banded together to see the Captain Creek Rural Fire Brigade reregistered.
Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett has sponsored a petition that has now received over 600 signatures.
Mr Bennett said rural fire brigades are critical in rural and regional areas and he’s urging the community to support the petition.
“The deregistration of the Captain Creek Rural Fire Brigade in November has left the area without a vital service in the 2019 and 2020 bushfire season,” he said.
“Deregistering the brigade and its 47 local, trained volunteer firefighters has caused a lot of angst and that is why we’re working to see the brigade reregistered as soon as possible.
“The petition is calling on the State Government to do all in its power to reregister the Captain Creek Rural Fire Brigade as a matter of urgency.
“In my most recent letter to the Minister for Emergency Services, I’ve asked for a clear articulated project time line for the reinstatement.
“We need a reinvigorated local brigade. The members are ready to join to help protect our homes, properties and our lives.
“Our goal is to rebuild the brigade and strengthen the team, we just need to get it reinstated and properly resourced.”
The petition closes on January the 24th.
