Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett is encouraging locals who can’t make the protest rally against the Palaszczuk government’s new anti-farmer vegetation management reforms on Wednesday to sign an online petition to register their concerns.

Mr Bennett said it was important for everyone to support farmers in the fight against the aggressive anti-agriculture vegetation management reforms.

“This is about protecting property rights, jobs, the future of farming families and food security,” Mr Bennett said.

“Right now we are fortunate to have access to fresh, local produce, but without our farmers, there will be no food.  These aggressive laws will essentially bite the hand that feeds us.”

He said the proposed changes were more extensive and aggressive than simply overturning the LNP’s 2013 changes.

“The Palaszczuk Labor Government’s rollback of the LNP’s sensible vegetation management framework will remove property rights, reduce the productivity of the agricultural sector, threaten jobs in our region and drive up food prices,” Mr Bennett said.

Mr Bennett said residents who could not attend Wednesday’s rally at Buss Park could still send a loud and clear message to the Palaszczuk Government by signing the e-petition, which can be accessed via the Queensland Parliamentary website:  www.parliament.qld.gov.au/work-of-assembly/petitions/e-petitions.
