Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett has called for a full External and Independent Investigation into the Bundaberg Hospital.

Mr Bennett said serious allegations of patient deaths and harm in Medical Wards two and three in 2021 have gone unanswered.

“We need accountability and transparency within the Wide Bay Hospital and Health Service,” said Mr Bennett.

“What we do know is that the previous investigation did not review every patient on the ward.

“73 percent of ward two and 61 percent of ward three staff said they did not feel confident about speaking up. This is two thirds of nursing teams.

“Only 18 charts were reviewed.

“Staff reported making calls to the investigation line but were never called back.

“Requests for RTI’s have been denied and information regarding who conducted the previous review has been redacted.

“It’s time to stop the spin and put an end to the coverups.

“The Queensland Heath system is sick, and we need to ensure both patients and staff have the resources, support, and respect they deserve.

“We need to keep fighting for justice, fairness and transparency.”

Mr Bennett raised the issue during a recent debate on the Health and Other Legislation Amendment Bill.
