Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett has been overwhelmed by the amount of community support following the devastating bushfires around the Discovery Coast.

The local MP is holding a Bushfire Benefit Concert this Saturday in an effort to raise money and boost moral for a shattered community.

“It’s all coming together in a very short amount of time because we realise people need help right now,” he said.

“Some residents have lost everything and they need all the support they can get to rebuild.

“We are so thankful to those who have already put up their hand to help; the Agnes Water/1770 Community Brand of Bendigo Bank and Agnes Water Beach Holiday who have thrown in huge amounts of support, but there is still plenty of time to get on board.

“It’s not too late to sponsor the event and say thanks to our amazing emergency services who have been putting their own lives on the line.

“It’s not too late for everyone in the community to dig deep and donate to the Discovery Coast Bushfire Fund.

“The event will see some great names hit the stage in the Round Mountain Girls, Quatro and Kissing the Flint.

Shadow Minister for Fire and Emergency Services Lachlan Millar toured the bushfire areas with Mr Bennett on Wednesday (December 5, 2018) speaking to locals about their experiences.

“The way the community has pulled together through this terrible disaster is nothing short of inspirational,” said Mr Millar.

“I have been very humbled to hear what happened to people and I can assure them that I am both listening and learning. The LNP wants to improve the government response, but I also want to ensure that we improve bushfire preparations and resilience,” he said.
