Strengthening Queensland’s economy is the number one priority for the Wide Bay Burnett, according to analysis of contributions to inform the development of The Queensland Plan, a 30-year vision for the state.
Locals also stressed the importance of strengthening the regions.
The economy and growth in our regions stood out for the Wide Bay Burnett, along with instilling discipline in young people.
Our region has spoken out loud and clear about their priorities and desires for the future, and I’ll be taking these ideas to a summit in Brisbane on Wednesday to ensure the region’s priorities are well represented in the final The Queensland Plan.
With more than 78,000 Queenslanders contributing since May either as individuals or through group submissions, this was an outstanding and unprecedented response.
While no stone was left unturned in ensuring that every Queenslander had the opportunity to have a voice in our state’s future, we are blown away by the exceptional response across the state particularly as it was voluntary to take part.
With over 83,000 unique web visits, over 200 local community events across Queensland, a dedicated schools engagement program, and a good following on social media, this was a comprehensive grassroots community engagement program.
One of the world’s leading engagement experts, Steven Ames, agrees. He’s been very vocal about the exceptional number of responses submitted and the methodology used.
Next week (9 and 10 October 2013) hundreds of Queenslanders will participate in a summit in Brisbane to fuse together the diverse opinions of the community.
A broad cross section of Queenslanders will work together to build consensus, consider how we achieve balance and then work together to deliver real and tangible outcomes that will help shape The Queensland Plan.
Those not attending the summit can still watch history unfold as The Queensland Plan takes shape.
You can watch summit sessions live, submit comments and be part of the online conversation, or visit the website throughout the day to catch-up on previous sessions.
