Local jobs and lifestyle will soon be improved with the Newman Government supporting Bundaberg Regional Council to build three projects in the Burnett.
Member for Burnett, Stephen Bennett said $508,000 had been set aside to help council build off street car parking in Childers, a kiosk at Elliott Heads and a bridge and pathways to complete the missing link on the Coastal pathway at Bargara.
Childers shoppers will be better off when a 60 bay car park is built in the CBD to reduce congestion, with the Newman Government giving $120,000 towards the total cost of $300,000. In a boost for residents and tourists at the coastal village of Elliott Heads, $180,000 has been given towards design and construction of a brand new kiosk. And cyclists and walkers will enjoy the full coastal pathway at Bargara, with $208,000 towards completing a pedestrian cycle bridge and linking pathways at Rifle Range Creek.
“Council have put forward those projects that are important to our region, and we’ve stretched every dollar to give maximum value for money,” Mr Bennett said.
Local Government Minister David Crisafulli said the Local Government Grants and Subsidies Program was about building infrastructure in local communities while also creating jobs at an important time.
“This must be the Year of Delivery for all levels of government and we’re making projects happen to help councils deliver a better lifestyle for their communities,” Mr Crisafulli said.
“There was a time only a few years ago when it would take nearly a year for the State Government to call for applications and award funding for these types of projects.
“This year it has been completed in six weeks.
“For the first time, this money will be spent entirely this financial year so as well as improving what makes our communities special it will also be injecting money at the right time.”
