Burnett residents can help bring a smile to the faces of children and young people living in care on Christmas Day 
by donating a present to the Newman Government’s annual Kids in Care Christmas Appeal.
Burnett and Bundaberg locals can show their community spirit by dropping in and leaving a present at the ABC studio in Bundaberg.
This year’s appeal acknowledges that it takes a whole ‘village’ or community to raise a child and we must lend our support to the hundreds of foster and kinship carers who do a great job all year round.
I am encouraging all Burnett residents to be part of the village and show they care by supporting our Christmas appeal.
Our community is known for pulling together to help each other and this time we’re pulling together to show our support for kids in care.
Presents like gift cards, sporting equipment, board games, clothes and books to the value of about $20 would be very well received.
Last year’s campaign had touched more people than ever, including foster carers and children in care, with a record number of presents donated.
Our Kids in Care Christmas Appeal has such a positive impact in communities’ right across this state and we saw this last year with the true Queenslander spirit stronger than ever before.
Being a part of the appeal also sends a strong message of support to our wonderful foster carers and the important role they play within our communities.
Presents need to be suitable for a child aged 0 to 17 years. People can make their donation at their local child safety service centre, or the Bundaberg ABC studio at 58 Woongarra Street.
The appeal runs until 13 December.
Any surplus toys will be distributed to other children who are known to Child Safety.
