The Burnett Heads War Memorial will soon be given a facelift after funding was approved by the state government.
The Burnett Heads Progress and Sports Association has received more than $16,000 through the third round of the Anzac Centenary Community Grants Program, Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett said today.
Mr Bennett welcomed the funding announcement, which he said would assist in the refurbishment of the Burnett Heads War Memorial and assist in the centenary of the Battle of Pozieres.
“The refurbishment of the Burnett Heads Memorial, including the installation of a new plaque listing the names of locals who served in the First World War, will be a great addition to what is already an important symbolic monument in the community,” Mr Bennett said.
“These funds will also allow the committee to host a fitting commemorative service and re-dedication to mark the centenary of the Battle of Pozieres.
“I’m extremely pleased to hear funding has been approved for this project and I look forward to seeing it come to life.”
Mr Bennett said the project was one of 46 to be approved state-wide from Round three of the program.
