More than $400,000 dollars has been spread around 12 groups in the Burnett under the latest round of the Gambling Community Benefit Fund.
Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett said the record funding for the electorate will see the construction of new sheds, kitchens and even a new kiln for the Firehouse Potters in Childers.
“This funding will go a very long way for the 12 local groups who work so hard for their members and their community,” he said.
“The Woodgate Beach Community Bus Inc is one of the successful organisations, with over $36,000 coming their way to construct a shed.
“This shed will mean the service can grow and move out of generous community member’s garages.
“The bus is a vital service for many Woodgate residents giving them the freedom and ability to get out and about, go to important appointments, and do their weekly shop.
“The service is going from strength to strength and is all thanks to the kindness and willingness of Woodgate residents.”
Woodgate Community Bus Inc Co-Founder Margaret Featherstone said the new shed will provide some much-needed shelter.
“The shed will not only permanently house our bus, but it could also act as a meeting place for numerous local groups,” she said.
“It will be a great community asset and we’re looking forward to starting construction.”
Mrs Featherstone said the Woodgate Community Bus Service plays an invaluable role in the region.
“We take residents on shopping trips, to medical appointments, markets, movies, lunch and even boat trips.
“We’re a not-for-profit organisation that aims to combat loneliness and enhance the health and wellbeing of our community.”
Mr Bennett said he was also thrilled to see the Bundaberg Sailing Club receive $51,425 to purchase a new safety boat and trailer and Isis District State High School receive $33,321, also for a trailer.
“Groups such as Woodgate Beach Community Bus Inc, the Miriam Vale Bowls Club, and the Firehouse Potters play an important role in our communities and I’m committed to ensuring they are supported as much as possible,” he said.
“The Gambling Community Benefit Fund is a way the government returns taxes from gambling activities to communities, and I encourage other local groups to take advantage of the funding opportunities available.”
Applications for the next standard grant round close October 31.
