Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett has congratulated an Agnes Water local who has been chosen as a finalist for the 2018 AgriFutures Rural Women’s Award.

Mr Bennett said Agnes Water’s Sonia Ghiggioli, an organic farmer, wine maker, and artisanal cheese maker, was one of four innovative rural businesswomen in Queensland to be named as a finalist for the prestigious award.

“The AgriFutures Rural Women’s Award acknowledges the essential role that women play in developing rural industries,
businesses and communities, and I’m delighted to see one of our very own successful businesswomen has been recognised,” Mr Bennett said.

“The finalists were chosen from a highly competitive field of women working in Queensland agriculture, which is a huge credit to Sonia Ghiggioli.

“I extend my best wishes to Sonia Ghiggioli as she progresses to the next stage of the Award.”

Mr Bennett said the winner, to be announced at a reception in Brisbane on March 22, will receive a $10,000 bursary to support their project.
