State MPs and other dignitaries’ tastebuds will be tantalised with our region’s finest produce at an exclusive event next week at Queensland’s Parliament House.
The 2016 Bundaberg Region Promotion Night, hosted by Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett, will feature an array of the region’s iconic producers and award-winning businesses, including Bundaberg Rum, Bundaberg Brewed Drinks, Bargara Brewing Company, Baffle Creek Brewery and the Bundaberg Fruit and Vegetable Growers – just to name a few.
Mr Bennett said the event, now in its fourth year, was all about showcasing the region’s best produce and experiences in our state’s capital city.
“As the local member representing this great region, I’m incredibly proud of the outstanding, fresh produce and amazing tourism opportunities we have right at our doorstep, and they deserve to be shouted from the rooftops of Queensland’s Parliament House,” Mr Bennett said.
“It’s all about being loud and proud and promoting the many wonderful things we have right in our backyard and making sure our region is aptly recognised across the state as a premier destination.
“We all know that we are one of the best tourist destinations in the country. This promotions night is about giving the state’s dignitaries a taste of all our delights in the hope that they will spread the word and attract people to our hometown.
“Having a vast selection of local products and services all under the one roof at Parliament House is great exposure for our magnificent region. It’s a wonderful opportunity for all our participants to get their name and products out there, and I’m proud to be able to help them expand their reach.”
Mr Bennett said the annual event was shaping up to be bigger and better than ever, and it wasn’t just about the food.
“We have a huge line up of mouth-watering produce from the Bundaberg and Burnett region this year, along with informative and interactive displays from important local organisations and peak tourism operators including Bundaberg North Burnett Tourism, the Mon Repos Visitor Centre, Bundaberg Chamber of Commerce and the IWC,” he said.
Bundaberg Fruit & Vegetable Growers (BFVG) Managing Director Bree Grima said they looked forward to being able to showcase local produce at the event.
“The Wide Bay-Burnett is a vibrant region rich in horticultural commodities and value-add products. Showcasing this produce to our Queensland political representatives and Premier at Parliament House is a fantastic opportunity to reinforce our position as Queensland’s Food Bowl,” she said.
Bundaberg Distilling Company Chairman Anthony Mortimer said the company was pleased to once again take part in the Bundaberg showcase at Parliament House.
“It is a great opportunity to help promote the region and to support the terrific work of local producers, farmers and many other businesses in the area,” Mr Mortimer said.
“We are mighty proud of our rum, with our MDC Blenders Edition 2015 having just been named the World’s Best Rum, a great result not just for our products but also for Queensland.
“We remain committed to our region as a local employer, as a major tourist destination and the producer of one of this state’s most iconic – and popular – drinks.”
The bi-partisan event will be officially opened by Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk and Opposition Leader Tim Nicholls next Thursday, June 16 at Parliament House.
