Bundy’s Biggest Morning Tea is back, but with a twist!
Local MPs Stephen Bennett and David Batt are donning aprons once again to raise vital funds for Cancer Council Queensland.
This year they are co-hosting Bundy’s Biggest ‘Virtual’ Morning Tea and are encouraging the community to join them.
The sixth annual morning tea will take place this Friday, May 15, from the comfort of your own home or workplace.
Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett said it’s a date in the calendar they always look forward to, but the MPs knew they had to do something a little different for 2020.
“Rain, hail, shine or pandemic, Bundy’s Biggest Morning Tea will go on!” he said.
“To take part on Friday all you have to do is have a morning tea at home, in a park or at work, take a photo and ‘check in’ to the event on Facebook called ‘Bundy’s Biggest Morning Tea’.
“During this unprecedented time it’s important we find ways to continue to interact with each other, and this morning tea is an ideal opportunity for our community to do that.”
Member for Bundaberg David Batt said the event is the perfect opportunity for the region to come together for a very important cause.
“Unfortunately, over 1700 residents in the Wide Bay are diagnosed with cancer each year, so it’s incredibly important we do what we can to raise funds and awareness for Cancer Council Queensland to ensure they can continue to provide their support services and lifesaving research,” he said.
“If you can, please join us in making a donation to our Bundy’s Biggest Morning Tea fundraising page set up on Cancer Council’s website – no donation is too small and all funds will go straight to Cancer Council Queensland.
“I’m really looking forward to seeing photos of everyone’s morning teas on Friday – we may be physically apart, but I am looking forward to seeing everyone come together for this important cause.”
Member for Hinkler Keith Pitt will also be joining the event from Canberra this year and encouraged the community to get involved to help support the great work by the Cancer Council.
“We’ve seen a lot of ingenuity during the coronavirus to keep people connected and still able to support one another and the Biggest Morning Tea is no different,” he said.
All funds raised will help support more than 1765 people in the Wide Bay Burnett who are diagnosed with cancer each year.
