More than 100 dignitaries were treated to a culinary tour of Bundaberg and Burnett’s finest produce at the Bundaberg Regional Promotion Night at Parliament House last night.

The annual event, hosted by the Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett, celebrates the region’s rich, vibrant horticulture commodities and value-add products.

Mr Bennett said the event wasn’t just about the food, but the evening served to shine a spotlight on the region’s iconic tourist attractions and award-winning businesses.

“The Bundaberg and greater Burnett region is not only Queensland’s food bowl as one of the largest vegetable producers in the state, but we have earned the title of being a premier tourist destination,” he said.

“Bundaberg locals know and appreciate just how wonderful our region is, but the event is a great opportunity to let the rest of Queensland experience the delights so they can see for themselves why our region is worth the visit.

“From our incredible range of fresh, tasty produce, pristine beaches, our Mon Repos turtles, exclusive beachfront retreats and Great Barrier Reef experiences – what’s not to love about the Bundaberg and Burnett region?”

The exclusive event featured some of the region’s biggest names including Bundaberg Rum, Bundaberg Brewed Drinks and Bundaberg Sugar.

Bundaberg Fruit and Vegetable Growers (BFVG), another iconic organisation in the region, was once again proud supporters of the Bundaberg Region Promotion Night and represented nearly 20 local producers and 30 commodities.

“The broad range of products regularly coming from this region is a continual surprise to many and our reminder that we can indeed supply the entire meal,” BFVG Managing Director Bree Grima said.

“Fresh and value-add lines were on display, adding to the aroma of the room and a taste sensation in the canapes.

“Ministers were also treated to a take home ‘goody bag’ to remind them of why the Wide Bay Burnett Region is a place to visit, enjoy and support.”

This year’s promotion night also featured interactive displays from a number of the region’s peak organisations, and local Chamber of Commerce groups were on hand to showcase the region’s best and upcoming businesses and tourist operators.

Mr Bennett said this year’s promotion night was the “best yet”.
