Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett is encouraging Bundaberg residents to get involved and have their say regarding the practices of the labour hire industry and worker exploitation.
Mr Bennett said the Finance and Administration Committee will now host a conference, either by video or phone, for Bundaberg residents next Wednesday, June 15, between 9am and 11am.
Mr Bennett said while he was disappointed a full public hearing would not be provided in Bundaberg, he welcomed the opportunity for people to have their say.
“I made some enquiries and can confirm today that the committee has decided that Bundaberg should be given the opportunity to speak directly with them on the matter,” Mr Bennett said.
“It’s disappointing Bundaberg was initially dropped from the public hearing schedule and there has been little word to promote the upcoming conference, but at least now our community’s voices will be heard.
“Our region is one of the largest production horticulture regions in the country and we should be given every opportunity to be part of this important discussion,” he said.
For more information on the conference or to register your intention to be part of the discussion, contact the committee on 3553 6637.
