A Tim Nicholls-led Liberal National Party Government will progress a business case for a Southeast Queensland Very Fast Train network linking the Wide Bay to the Sunshine Coast, Brisbane and Gold Coast.
Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett and LNP Bundaberg Candidate David Batt announced that $2.5 million would be committed to the study to plan for future growth.
“The connectivity between the wide bay to the Sunshine Coast, Brisbane and Gold Coast is a huge step forward which will create unbelievable opportunities for our region,” Mr Bennett said.
“This will bring construction opportunities, tourism opportunities and more importantly, those people who rely on the health services of the South-East corner will be able to go down in two hours and be back in two hours.”
Mr Bennett said key infrastructure in the Wide Bay was well overdue.
“Let’s make no mistake, there’s only one party talking about key infrastructure projects in the Wide Bay and Burnett,” he said.
“We want to make sure that the very fast train becomes a reality. This is why I’m Member of Parliament – to make sure that the Wide Bay is included in those conversations.
“I couldn’t be more excited that the Wide Bay is being included in key infrastructure project announcements.
“The LNP has the initiative, drive and the capability to make sure projects like these become a reality.
“I say to the member for Bundaberg – stop championing a $15 billion Cross River Rail project for your mates in the South-East Corner, and start thinking about your very own – the people of Bundaberg.”
