Member for Burnett, Stephen Bennett advises that the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) is currently undertaking reconstruction and capital works projects on the Bruce Highway throughout the Wide Bay/ Burnett Region.

“While TMR will make every effort during construction to minimise impacts, motorists can expect delays and should factor additional travel time to their journey. Please take care and obey the signage at roadworks to ensure your own safety, and that of roadworkers”, Mr Bennett said.

Reconstruction works from Childers to Kolan River will continue during 2013 between 6am and 6pn from Monday to Saturday. Delays of 15 minutes can be expected.

From Maryborough to Childers, reconstruction works will continue until mid-2013. The widening and overtaking lane improvement work south of Childers will continue until later in 2013. Works to construct new overtaking lanes at Pig Creek and Cherwell River are anticipated to continue until late 2012, weather permitting. All works will take place between 6am and 6pm from Monday to Saturday, with some out-of-hours work possible. Allow an extra 30 minutes’ travel time.

Reconstruction Works between Gympie and Maryborough will continue until mid-2013, mostly asphalt overlay. Works will generally take place between 6pm and 6am from Sunday to Friday. Daytime delays of 5 minutes and night-time delays of 15 minutes can be expected.

The reconstruction works are being delivered under the Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements, with the Australian Government providing 75% of the funding and 25% from the Queensland Government.

The capital works for overtaking lanes at Cherwell River and Pig Creek, valued at $8.6 million, are being delivered as part of the Australian Government’s Nation Building Program.
