Bundaberg and the Burnett’s high performing teachers are being sought to mentor next year’s graduate teachers.
The new Mentoring for Beginning Teachers program is an important initiative aimed at lifting teaching standards.
We want the next generation in our region to learn from our best and brightest teachers.
The Newman Government promised the people of Queensland we would revitalise frontline services and this is especially important in education.
We’re investing $535 million on the most important piece of the system – the teacher.
Expressions of interest are invited from experienced teachers who wanted to participate.
Interested teachers have until 5 May to submit an expression of interest.
The program, for state school teachers, is part of the Queensland Government’s Great teachers = Great Results initiative which creates opportunities for every teacher to improve their skills.
The Mentoring for Beginning Teachers program will help to achieve that goal by providing timely assistance to beginning teachers.
Mentors will offer guidance, feedback and a range of support in the important early stage of their careers.
It can be daunting for beginning teachers who take full responsibility for student learning from their first day on the job.
However, with the support of a trained mentor, new teachers will feel less isolated and more confident. Their mentors will help them adopt a reflective approach to teaching and become better at problem solving.
Importantly, the mentors themselves will benefit from the relationship, further developing their professional leadership skills and revitalising their own teaching.
For the first intake of mentors we’re seeking 500 of our high performing teachers from across the state. They’ll be provided with fully funded training later this year as well as ongoing resources to equip them in their new roles.
Everything the Newman Government does in education is directed towards better student outcomes.
We have focussed on three key priorities to deliver better students outcomes – boosting teacher quality, increasing school autonomy and improving student discipline.
