The festive season is upon us and to celebrate, Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett is kicking off his annual Christmas hamper competition.
Three lucky families in the Bundaberg and Burnett region will soon be enjoying a feast of locally produced festive treats, courtesy of the local MP.
Mr Bennett first introduced the Christmas hamper competition two years ago as part of a campaign to encourage families to spread the festive cheer to local businesses by buying local.
“The Christmas hamper competition is as much about spreading Christmas cheer to families as it is about encouraging people to support local businesses when making their Christmas purchases,” Mr Bennett said.
“The campaign is all about supporting local businesses, particularly small businesses owned and operated by the mums and dads in our region who really do need our backing.
“We are incredibly fortunate to have some great local produce right at our fingertips, and these hampers showcase some of the best local goodies around.”
Mr Bennett said winners would enjoy a tasty assortment of conserves and sauces, dried fruit and nuts, a ham from a local butcher, handmade local fudge, soft drinks from Bundaberg Brewed Drinks and other treats – all sourced from the Wide Bay and Burnett.
Mr Bennett said small businesses were the engine room of our region, driving innovation, employment and economic progress.
“You can’t underestimate the benefits of supporting local businesses by shopping locally,” he said.
“When you shop locally your money stays locally, with one dollar spent at a local business returning up to five times that amount through employee wages, rates and the purchase of materials and supplies.”
To enter Mr Bennett’s Christmas hamper competition, simply provide your name, address, email address and mobile number to the Burnett Electorate Office.
Mr Bennett said entries were open to all residents in the Burnett and Bundaberg electorates, with one winner to be picked randomly from the Discovery Coast, one from the Isis District and one from the Bundaberg, Bargara and coast area.
Entries close on Wednesday, December 16 at midnight, with the draw taking place on Thursday, December 17 at 3pm. Winners will be contacted immediately.
Hampers can be collected from Stephen’s office or delivery can be arranged.
