Convicted killers in the Bundaberg and Burnett region who fail to tell authorities where they have dumped their victim’s body will be refused parole under new laws expected to come into effect this year.
Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett welcomed the announcement that the Palaszczuk Government will adopt the LNP’s laws which were first announced late last year with the support of Bruce and Denise Morcombe.
Mr Bennett said the laws were aimed at empowering victims, not offenders.
“For far too long the scales of justice in Queensland have put the rights of criminals ahead of the expectations of the Bundaberg community and victims’ families and loved ones,” he said.
“I’m pleased the Palaszczuk Government isn’t playing politics on this important issue and has chosen to adopt our No Body, No Parole laws in Queensland.
“This will help to give families, loved ones and friends the closure they need.”
