The State Labor Government has been accused of ‘failed infrastructure delivery’ regarding a promised new Fire Station for Bundaberg.

Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett tabled a Question on Notice in parliament on behalf of the growing Bundaberg and Burnett community.

When can the people of Bundaberg and the Burnett expect a new fire station and where is the proposed location?

Mr Bennett said he will continue to keep the pressure on to ensure the community gets what they’ve been promised.

“Sadly, our region knows all too well how fast and devastating a bushfire or housefire can be,” he said.

“With substantial population growth, particularly along the coast, it’s paramount that this fire station is built swiftly and at a location that will cater for this growth.

“However, we’re yet to see any detail on the proposed station making it yet another empty announcement and failed infrastructure delivery.”

Mr Bennett said regional centers like Bundaberg and Bargara are expected to continue to be popular destinations.

“It’s vital emergency service infrastructure is built with the future in mind,” he said.

“Unfortunately, Labor’s track record of future planning is far from perfect which is why I’ll continue to advocate for our community to ensure we get not only what we’ve been promised but also a facility that will cater for our future growth.”

The Minister for Fire and Disaster Recovery has 30 days to respond to Mr Bennett’s question.
